  • Condition: This group of 25 cyanotypes is overall in excellent condition. Lush and luminous, the prints are beautifully captured with clear, densely packed details, and vibrant rendering.

Under close examination, most surfaces are flawless. The sheets are also neat, except for some blue coloration in the margins as a result of the process, as well as their versos. Under close examination and raking light, six cyanotypes evidence some faint surface imperfections which are listed below for the purpose of a detailed report.

    1. "Foundations of Seawall E. Cambridge Power Station": The upper quadrant is slightly rippled (in the sky area), probably from the drying process. Not distracting.

    2. "Pleasant St…. under Greenhood Blvd.": shows the remnant of a vertical crease professionally repaired in the upper right quadrant, as well as a cluster of residue at the very top. Not overly distracting under normal viewing condition.

    3. "Fender for posts.": Little rippled area in the top left corner as well as a little and faint spot of foxing at the extreme left edge of the image. Unobtrusive and not distracting at all.

    4. "Corning and Kirkland St. sheeting and bracing": tiny crease in the lower left thin margin, not entering the image area. The top left corner slightly rippled, also not entering the image area.

    5. "Lincoln Whorf. Pile driving": Small brownish stain spot at the extreme upper edge. Visible under normal viewing condition, but not overly distracting.

    6. "Charlestown Bridge": small, rippled area in the upper left margin slightly entering the image area. This is minor and not disruptive at all.

Overall, a detailed documentation of the Boston elevated railway construction beautifully captured.
