Situated in western Scotland, this glen was the site of the notorious massacre of the MacDonalds of Glencoe by the soldiers of Campbell of Glenlyon in 1692. McCulloch, a member of the Royal Scottish Academy, painted many landscapes which celebrated the grandeur and romance of the Scottish countryside.
