DANIEL DE LOSQUES (1880-1915)

"Marthe Régnier was a reigning favorite of the Paris comic stage who delighted theatergoers with her vivacious, intelligent, tomboyish portrayals" (Gold p. 88). It was fitting then, that the artist rendered the actress in a playful, caricature style, reminiscent of Cappiello.

Henri-Daniel-Casimir-Paul Thouroude, also known as Daniel De Losques, was a French artist and illustrator. He studied at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris and went on to illustrate for numerous newspapers and publications such as Le Figaro, L'Aurore, Le Matin, Le Rire, Le Monde illustré, Paris illustré and Le Théâtre. In 1910, De Losques opened his own printing studio called Losques studio, which predominantly produced posters for concerts and theater performances. His life was cut short in WWI during his time as a bomber, when his plane was shot down by a German aircraft in 1915. This is the version with text. Gold 127.
