PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY DARROW on the half-title: "To Capt. and Mrs. Frederick J. Horne --who have fed me spinach that I didn't want! --but have extended so many kindnesses during my stay in Honolulu that I shall always remember them with joy and gratitude --Clarence Darrow. Honolulu April 29th, 1932." The Hornes were Darrow's hosts while he was in Hawaii during the Massie trial. Also with a lengthy inscription to Horne from chief defendant Lt. Thomas Massie on the page opposite the half-title. Signed by Horne on the front free endpaper as Vice Admiral. Laid-in --A Typed Letter Signed, from Darrow's wife, Ruby, to the Hornes. One page, 4to, on personal letterhead. 29 June 1932.
