  • Notes: In 1986-87 Bates created two bronze sculptures of dogs, titled Rosco and Large Dog. This drawing is likely a study for unrealized iterations of this series. Bud, one of the dogs drawn here, has been featured in multiple oil paintings Bates executed during the 1980s, most prominently in Feeding the Dogs, 1987, which is held in the permanent collection of Phoenix Art Museum.
