Engraved additional title, vignettes, head-pieces, initial, and 200 engraved plates by Pietro Santi Bartoli. 4to, contemporary vellum; 1-inch worm hole to lower inner margin of last three leaves, faint pen mark and scattered light soiling to engraved title, lacks front blank. Armorial bookplate. Rome: Giovanni Giacomo Komarek Boemo, 1700 first edition, first state with vignettes at end of index and preface. De la Chasse was born in Paris, but settled in Rome where he befriended several eminent persons and antiquaries. This was his own collection of choice gems which, as quoted by Mariette in Sinkankas 1198: "... is done with discernment, the descriptions... judicious and erudite.".
