The venerable tire company, Dunlop, which was founded in 1889, began manufacturing special tires for airplanes in 1910, and commenced operating a separate aviation division in 1925. To help further fuel interest in and support the young commercial aviation market, the company sponsored this annual flying exhibition and competition.
