Launched in 1935, the Normandie captured the Blue Riband on her maiden voyage for making the fastest Atlantic crossing to date. When she entered New York Harbor on June 3rd, 1935 at the end of her first crossing, she was photographed from the sky, accompanied up the Hudson River to her pier by numerous other vessels. That photograph was the basis for this poster. Not only was she one of the most famous ocean liners in the world, but she also benefited from the best graphic advertising, immortalized by A.M. Cassandre, Paul Colin, Montague Black, Hubert Herkomer and in this tantalizingly anonymous design. Passenger Ships 103, Weallans p. 150, La Mer p. 157.
