DESIGNER UNKNOWN GATEWAY TO THE WORLD'S FAIR / PAN AM. 1961.
41 1/2x28 1/8 inches, 105 1/2x71 1/2 cm.
Condition A-: creases in bottom corners.
An exceptional association piece combining Pan Am, the 1964 New York World's Fair, United States Steel (which constructed the Unisphere) and, unmentioned, New York Airways. NYA operated a fleet of 15 Vertol 44-B twin rotor helicopters from the heliport atop the iconic Pan Am building, which was designed by Walter Gropius and Pietro Belluschi. The heliport on its roof was in regular operation from 1965 to 1968. In 1977, a fatal crash atop the structure halted all future service.
