DESIGNER UNKNOWN LUTO LOTEN. 1934.
29x20 inches, 73 1/2x51 cm.
Condition A-: vertical and horizontal folds.
With its solid graphic tradition stemming from the influence of de Stijl, with Paul Shuitema and Piet Zwart as vanguards, Holland was one of the leading countries in taking a modernist approach toward advertising. Avant-garde typography was put towards practical applications in the everyday world. This Lotto poster, with the outline of an airplane dramatically placed at an angle and the stream of text and imagery in the background, shows the level of progressive design that was utilized even for the most mundane and mass-distributed posters.
