DESIGNER UNKNOWN PLYMOUTH / HEMI ''CUDA / CHRYSLER. 1970.
54 1/4x151 inches, 137 3/4x385 1/2 cm.
Condition B+: tears, repaired tears, creases and abrasions at edges, some affecting image; foxing in image; pin holes in corners. Four-sheets, taped together on verso. Paper.
Introduced in 1970, the Plymouth Rapid Transit System was a campaign to keep Chrysler relevant in the muscle car market. Their GTX, Road Runner, Sport Fury GT, Duster 340 and ''Cuda were all a direct response to Dodge''s Scat Pack quintet of cars from 1968. A Plymouth brochure from 1970 reads, "Those of us at Plymouth who design and build high-performance cars have been inspired to go beyond just offering cars with big engines, good suspensions, great brakes and fat tires," such as the "quivering cold air grabber" on the front of this ''Cuda. Plymouth''s print-advertising campaign for their cars gave a nod to both Hotwheels'' box art (these popular die-cast cars were first introduced in 1968) and the waning days of the psychedelic movement. This billboard is rare. We could find only one other copy at auction.
