- Notes: "I am most unfortunate in being unable to fix a day between the two days you so kindly mention. But I expect a friend from Edinburgh to be staying here all next week, and do not feel myself at liberty to make any new engagements until his departure. I have waited a day on the chance of hearing from him that he was detained in Scotland; but not doing so, conclude that he is coming tonight or tomorrow."
