Ritual Broom of Sasara. 24 inches in height, made from mixed ritual materials of the Obaluaiye cult: iggiope ribs, leather, cloth, glass beads, seeds, cowrie shells, etc. Accompanied by a Schomburg Center exhibition pamphlet concerning Didi. SIGNED AND DATED ON BASE. Brazil, 1986 Deoscoredes Maximiliano dos Santos, known as Mestre Didi, is an internationally known Brazilian artist and High Priest of the Religious Society of the Ancestors. He is of direct lineage from the family which brought Xango Afonga to Bahia in Brazil. The ritual broom is used to literally sweep evil spirits away. This broom is one of several exhibited at the Schomburg in 1986.
