DISRAELI, BENJAMIN. Two items: Autograph Letter Signed, "B. Disraeli," to Mrs. Bulwer * Autograph Manuscript, unsigned.

DISRAELI, BENJAMIN. Two items: Autograph Letter Signed, "B. Disraeli," to Mrs. Bulwer * Autograph Manuscript, unsigned. The letter, remarking that he needed no reminder of her as he has never forgotten her kindesses to him, hoping that they meet again soon, stating that becoming M.P. for Maidstone was not necessary to confirm his belief in destiny, and mentioning a visit from Wyndham L[ewis]. 8 pages, 8vo, written on two folded sheets; minor soiling on signature page. The manuscript, brief instructions for a dinner to be held on 4 February 1867, probably for use by servants, including a wine list, seating arrangements for dignitaries, and when and how to summon guests for dinner. 2 pages, 8vo, written on pages one and three of a folded sheet; minor scattered soiling, three tiny holes along top edge of each page and along either side of center fold. Bradenham, [1837-41]; Np, [circa February 1867]

  • Notes: The letter: ". . . It was odd that my electioneering struggles sho'd terminate in being M.P. for Maidstone. As I am always a believer in destiny, it required not this strange occurrence, & doubly strange from the manner in which it took place, to confirm me in my oriental creed. . . ."
The manuscript: ". . . The Speaker of the House of Commons will sit on the Chancellor's right hand, & Mr. De Grey & Mr. Graves, . . . on his left. . . ."
