Provenance: Private collection, Massachusetts.

This large, finished drawing records the fresco of the same subject by Beccafumi in the Palazzo Pubblico, Siena, early 1530s. There is another similar drawing in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, after the painting Costumius Tibertius Shows his Son Punished by Death, from the same fresco cycle by Beccafumi (inventory number K.67.52).
