    Notes:
Donald Judd's early printing practice, developed between 1951 and the early 1960s, began first with lithographs but evolved to encompass other techniques, coming to center predominantly on woodcuts. During this formative period- before his transition to three-dimensional work- Judd produced a focused body of prints distinguished by bold, rectilinear forms carved into plywood. These works emphasize flatness, repetition, and the inherent qualities of the media he worked with, reflecting his early move away from illusionistic space and toward a direct, material-based approach.

The discipline of making woodcuts and prints more broadly played a formative role in Judd's artistic development. The clarity, precision, and structural rigor required by the medium anticipated the concerns that would define his mature practice, including the use of simple geometric forms, an interest in seriality, and the insistence on the object's physical presence. Judd later acknowledged these early prints as a crucial step in his shift from painting to the "specific objects" that positioned him at the forefront of Minimalism.
