letters of text, short tear on VI touching one letter discreetly repaired, a few other margin repairs, the Epistle (A3 and A4) is bound after "the Printer to the Understanders" and "Hexastichon Bibliopolae" (second A1 and A2), remnant of initial blank and engraved portrait (from the 1651 Letters) mounted on leaves before title, the second work (as listed below) follows the Epistle and precedes the text of this work; cloth slipcase. London: by M[iles].F[lesher]. for John Marriot, 1633 FIRST EDITION. First state of 2N1 with 35 lines, and no running head on recto. Bookplate of Philip Justice with his ownership inscription on the title. JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL'S COPY, WITH PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION TO HIM FROM GEORGE WASHBURN SMALLEY on the preserved front free pastedown (dated June 1888). Lowell revised the 1633 "Poems" for the Grolier Club edition of 1895, and from the number of small faint pencil marks and occasional letters in the margins this is presumably a copy he used.
