DOROTHEA LANGE (1895-1965) Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California (variant).

DOROTHEA LANGE (1895-1965)

Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California (variant).
Silver print, the image measuring 244x197 mm; 9 5/8x7¾ inches, the sheet slightly larger, with an Oakland Museum label with Lange's printed credit and the typed title and negative date on verso. 1936; printed circa 1990s.

Provenance: This print was made by the Oakland Museum for a member of the John Dixon family.

  • Condition: This variant example of Dorothea Lange's iconic Migrant Mother is in excellent condition. The glossy surface of the print appears to be ferrotyped, and presents in lustrous, rich middle tones and with a clean, bright surface.

Upon exceedingly close inspection in strong, raking light, it is possible to find a very soft and unobtrusive handling mark in the lower right quadrant. This is nearly imperceptible, does not detract at all, and only noted for the purposes of a detailed report.

The thin margins and verso are neat and bright, without apparent flaw. With an Oakland Museum label with Lange's printed credit and the typed title and negative date on verso.

Provenance: This print was made by the Oakland Museum for a member of the John Dixon family
