Vindiciae nationis Maronitarum [and other texts]. manuscript in latin,/span written in cursive hand in brown ink on laid paper with anchor watermark. 191 (of ?) leaves. 262x200 mm, 18th-century sheep-backed boards, backstrip defective, binding broken; contents generally clean. Bookplate of Giuseppe Garampi (1725-92), Prefect of the Vatican archives from 1749 to 1772 and Cardinal from 1785; sold as item 14365 in the 1796 priced sale catalogue of his library.   • Notes: Later fair copy of Latin translations of apologetic and liturgical writings by the preeminent Maronite cleric and scholar of his time (1630-1704), who served as Patriarch from 1670 until his death. The Arabic original texts were first published in 1890 and 1902. The title work is a history of the Maronites and defense of their faith and observance against attacks by the Melkite Patriarch Eutychius and various Catholic authors, composed in 3 parts, of which the third is not included in this manuscript.
