  • Notes: first edition, first issue of the author's best known work with first 2 lines on page 335 transposed. Includes a single 8vo sheet (usual folds, recto only) tipped-in Autograph Letter Signed by Douglas replying to Geoffrey Singer dated Oct. 5th, 1927 on the Florence, Italy, Thomas Cook branch office stationery, regarding a previous inquiry toward obtaining Douglas's books in the U.S.: ". . . To make a list of these things would take some time!" Two franked envelopes are present, one of which bears the printed name "G. Orioli" with his Florence address listed below. Guiseppi "Pino" Orioli was Douglas's publisher, and best known for privately publishing the unexpurgated first edition of Lady Chatterley's Lover at Douglas's urging. The first state copy of South Wind is scarce (the 1922 limited edition also published in London is more common) with only three copies appearing at auction in the last 25 years. Connolly 28.
