DOX THRASH (1893-1965) Afternoon Chat.

DOX THRASH (1893-1965)
Afternoon Chat.

Pencil on cream wove paper, circa 1939. 267x216 mm; 10 1/2x8 1/2 inches, full margins, with tackholes at the sheet corners. Signed in pencil, lower right.

Provenance: acquired directly from the artistp; thence by descent, private collection.

The drawing was a study for the same-titled color carborundum relief etching, for which only two impressions exist. The traced pencil markings in the drawing, in fact, reveal that this drawing was used to transfer the design on to the copper plate. Ittman notes that the copper plate is in the collection of the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. Ittmann 140.
