(EARLY AMERICAN IMPRINT.) Markham, J.; et. al. The Citizen and Countryman's Experienced Farrier. 364 pages. 8vo, contemporary sheep, front cover detached, quite worn; browned and dampstained throughout, terminal index leaf defective with some loss. Wilmington, 1764
- Notes: first edition of the first separate work on farriery published in America (preceded by The Husbandman's Guide of 1710 which contains a section on the subject). Revised for an American audience from Markham's 17th-century treatise, this edition is noted for the mention on the title that "Discreet Indians" have participated in its production. We could locate no copies having come up for auction in the last 20 years. "This is not only the first American edition of one of the early seventeenth century's most notable writers on sporting, but an early Delaware imprint"--Streeter Sale 4083; Henderson, page 120; The Colonial Scene, pages 30-31; Evans 9718.
