first edition. Published by "infamous" printer Benjamin Harris, who had fled England to avoid prosecution for libel and subsequently established the first newspaper in America in 1694. Publick Occurrences lasted but one issue and was immediately suppressed by the Government. Harris is also remembered as the publisher of the first New England Primer. This work by Mather, also intended for the young, includes a listing of 31 books written by the famed Minister. Few copies of this work have survived.
