- Notes: first american edition, more than a century after its first appearance in London--the Revolution inspired American publishers to ignore British copyright. Published with an introductory letter by Jacob Tonson, the poem "On Paradise Lost" by Andrew Marvel, and 2 introductory essays: "The Verse" and "The Arguments of the Twelve Books." A respectable copy in a sturdy original binding with strong hinges. extremely scarce; we know of only 2 copies on the market since 1939. Evans 15443.
