  • Notes: First American edition of "an abridgement of the works of Thomas a Kempis, by a Female Hand" [Elizabeth Rowe]. The first full-length book printed in English by Saur.  

    Provenance: Marmaduke Watson (probably of Burlington, NJ, 1722-1802); borrowed by Joseph Smith in 1762 (the Princeton student who became a prominent Presbyterian, lived 1736-1792?); Watson's daughter(?) Mary Watson; gift of the Rev. Andrew Yu-Yue Tsu (1885-1986) to the General Theological Seminary Library, and thence into the trade. Evans 6342; Sabin 37343
