EARLY MANUSCRIPTPROKOSCH, FREDERIC. Unpublished book of poetry titled "Silvius." 16 typed poems and 4 ink and wash illustrations, hightened in gold, on tissue paper tipped to pages, by Prokosch. [56] pages. 8vo, decorated paper boards, bound by the author, spine split, few pages lightly torn from threads. [New York], 1931

  • Notes: copy number one of only three copies created by prokosch as stated in his typed, initialed colophon. The colophon also states that the book was produced in the late autumn of 1931 and was printed, bound, hand-drawn, and hand-colored by him. In addition to the typed poems, the book bears a hand-written dedication to J. M. Barrie and a verse each by Donne and Dryden, along with a laid-in sheet of paper that states: "This is my first attempt in book form of some of my poems: this copy was sent to J. M. Barrie. The drawings are by me. None of these poems have ever been published. Frederic Prokosch." An extraordinary and unique early piece of writing by Prokosch that predates all of his major works.
