  • Notes: first edition. Keynes resigned as the chief representative of the British Treasury at the Paris Peace Conference following World War I "on the ground that the proposals put forward for German reparations payments were impractical and unjust. In December 1919 he published The Economic Consequences of the Peace, which won him a worldwide reputation for its brilliant writing and character sketches, its humane and liberal outlook, and the cogency of its arguments about the German reparations problem"--DSB VII, 318.
