(ECUADOR.) Cuero y Caicedo, José. Contemporary transcript of his revolutionary message tacked to the Quito church door. Manuscript broadside, 12 x 16 1/2 inches; tack holes and related wear in three corners, minor worming and toning. Quito, 2 April 1810

  • Notes: Cuero y Caicedo was Bishop of Quito and a leading figure of opposition to Spanish rule. A contemporary manuscript transcript signed by José Enrique de León, copied from an original which was posted on the door of the church in Quito. This copy was also posted publicly, or so the corner holes and discoloration suggest.
