"I HAVE 3 CHILDREN WHO KNOW THE VALUE OF MONEY" EDISON, THOMAS A. Autograph Letter Signed, "TAE," to his daughter [Madeleine Edison Sloane], in pencil, on the verso of a portion of her letter to him. The five-page letter of Edison's daughter [only two pages are present], appealing to her father "to take up our loan at the West Orange bank . . . and lend us in addition the sum of two thousand dollars." Edison writes "Over," in pencil, following the closing of her letter, replying that he would do as she asks and offering to loan money again against her telephone stock. 2 pages, 8vo, written on separate sheets; few small holes at fold intersections affecting text, minor paperclip stain at top of first page. Np, [circa 4 April 1923]

  • Notes: "I think now I have 3 children who know the value of money. I didn't know about my daughter, but since you have had some expensive lessons, you will be ok. I will arrange the loan & pay the note, see John Miller & tell him that I want the note paid so will get the stock back. Does this make you clear owner of the house. I will also give you some cement bonds which now pay interest regularly & this will enhance your income. But please do not let your wants always go ahead of income. . . . If you are short of ready money Tom will loan you some on your phone stock when note is paid."
