THOMAS EDISON AND HIS SON EDISON, THOMAS A. Two Brief Autograph Notes Signed, in pencil, each written in the upper margin of a letter to him from his son, Thomas A. Edison, Jr. The first, "Tom / make your estimate / of building cost & send / it up / Edison." Tom's letter, dated November 14, 1908, 4 pages, discussing the "white steamer" automobile recently repaired by his father, expressing a wish for a building to house the automobile and in which to work, asking for money to meet the building costs, discussing tools needed for the job, and complaining of headaches. The second, "Tom-- / Let me know when / you are perfectly well / & I will send the auto down / E." Tom's letter, dated February 5, 1909, 2 pages, thanking him for sending a check, mentioning a letter from his mother, stating that he would like George to explain the workings of the "White Steamer" as he has become an enthusiastic motorist. Each small 8vo. [Orange, November 1908; February 1909]

  • Notes: with--Two letters from the elder Edison's secretary, H.F. Miller, to "Dear Tom" or Burton Willard [Thomas A. Edison, Jr.]. The first, explaining that a crank shaft would be sent with George to install. The second, sending a check for $200. Orange, 14 October 1908; 3 February 1909.
