EDMUND BLAMPIED
Chrysanthemums.

Watercolor on paper, 1930. 735x535 mm; 29x21 inches. Signed and dated in ink, lower right recto.

Ex-collection private collection, Connecticut.

Blampied (1886-1966) was one of the most eminent artists to come from the Channel Islands. He was born on Jersey and was largely self-taught until his mid-teens. Though best known as a printmaker during the 1910s/1920s etching revival in England and a prolific illustrator throughout his career, he was also an extremely talented watercolorist. During the late 1920s/early 1930s, Blampied dabbled in abstract art to produce what he called his "Color Symphonies."
