EDOUARD COURCHINOUX
LE TOUQUET / PARIS-PLAGE. Circa 1925.
21 1/4x15 1/2 inches. Lucien Serre, Paris.
Condition B+: staining and pinholes in margins; creases in image; horizontal fold.
Ideally situated at the tip of a triangle between Brussels and Paris, Le Touquet rests just south of Boulogne on France's Cote d'Opale. While picturing the famous golf course (designed in 1904), with its well known Piney woods and rolling sand dunes, Courchinoux inadvertantly created a local icon. This red caddy has become a "veritable institution," (Sport p. 166) a sports logo that has become inextricably linked with the region.
