Vuillard (1868-1940) moved to a fifth floor apartment on 26 rue de Calais in July 1908. The interior of the apartment and the street below became the subjects of numerous paintings for the next eighteen years. In 1928, 26 rue de Calais was demolished to accommodate new construction, and Vuillard made his subsequent home at 6 place Vintimille.
