  • Notes: a rare signed and inscribed photographic portrait of this important african american educator and reformer. "ever your friend, hallie q. brown, wilberforce, o, green co." Hallie Quinn Brown (1849-1949) was born in Pittsburgh, one of six children of freed slaves. Brown attended Wilberforce University in Ohio. She was a professor at Tuskegee from 1892 to 1893 under Booker T. Washington, founder of the Colored Women's League, and was a frequent lecturer on African American issues as well as temperance.
