- Notes: presentation by the author/organizer of the exhibit to Arthur Spingarn. Part of a series of educational shows held at the 135th Street branch of the NYPL [named the Schomburg Center for Research in 1940]. The two parts of this exhibition are: "The Negro in American Life II. From the Revolutionary to the Civil War" and "Life and Times of Frederick Douglass." Arthur Spingarn, philanthropist and attorney for the NAACP, was a collector of books by and about people of African descent.
