(EDUCATION.) Ransom, Reverdy Cassius. School Days at Wilberforce.
Portrait frontispiece of Bishop Daniel A. Payne, first president of Wilberforce, additional illustrations. 8vo, original cloth; hinges reinforced. (Springfield, OH, 1886)
- Notes: first edition of ransom's first book, a memoir of his education at Wilberforce. Ransom, 48th Bishop of the AME Church and a civil rights leader, was the first Negro appointed to the Ohio Parole Board. In 1913 he established a mission in what was then called Manhattan's "Black Tenderloin District," a desperately poor neighborhood. In 1918, as a result of his work for the poor, he was nominated by the United Civic League of Manhattan for the candidacy of the 21st Congressional District.
