British monarchs covered in this work include Henry IV, Henry V, Henry VI, Edward IV, Edward V, Richard III, Henry VII and Henry VIII. The last king takes up the lion's share of the hefty volume. Hall's Chronicle first came out in 1548. Antiquarian bookseller Alan Keen found an annotated copy of Hall's Chronicle in 1940 filled with handwritten notes later determined to be in Shakespeare's hand in the margins of the sections one might suspect, those that share the names of his historical plays.
