In the same style and palette as his image for the previous month (see lot 12), Penfield's New Year image is another watercolor painting (and his last in this style), replete with details. Note the calendar on the wall, the list of subscription rates posted behind the counter, and the man's two $2 bills for another year's subscription to Harper's. Interestingly, this is one of only a handful of posters that Penfield designed with two columns of vertical type. Kiehl 146, DFP I 328.
