EDWARD PENFIELD HARPER'S NOVEMBER. 1895.
16 1/4x11 3/4 inches.
Condition A-: tears in magins; staining on verso; horizontal fold. Paper.
Keeping with his established theme of showing Harper's as a magazine enjoyed by the wealthy, leisure class, and tying his images in to current events, (November was the month of the National Horse Show), Penfield depicts an elegant couple eyeing a horse. The Poster, February 1896, reports that the gentleman pictured was the young novelist (published by Harper's!) Richard Harding Davis. 1895 was the first year Penfield designed posters that did not feature images of the magazine itself. Kiehl 171, DFP 350, Reims 1267.
