This is another print that is denied the possibility of fair appreciation in reproductions. The rough forms, of course, are visible in copies of this image, but not the clarity of the air and the water at 8,000 feet, nor the brilliance of the white line that is the shore at the back of the lake, nor the cloud reflections in the still, glossy water, nor all the natural debris in the sand under the water.

  • Condition: Edward Weston's " Lake Tenaya, Yosemite National Park" (1937; printed 1980s by Cole Weston) is in nearly excellent condition. The tones of the print are rich and dimensional, with a compelling range of white highlights, charcoal grays, and deep blacks.

Under scrutiny in raking light, we can notice a minuscule impression above the cloud on the upper left edge. This is hardly noticeable and noted for the purpose of a detailed report. Otherwise, the surface is clean and neat, without visible flaws.

The mount is also bright and clean. The collector's (Neil Robert Berzak) stamp was applied to mount verso. With the Negative by Edward Weston stamp with Cole Weston's signature in pencil, and the title, negative notation "T-L-1G," and negative date also in pencil, on mount verso.
