Accompanied by a letter from the Friends of Photography, San Francisco, on this limited edition photograph offered on the occasion of the book publication Eikoh Hosoe (Untitled 42) (Carmel, California: The Friends of Photography, 1986).

This image from his earliest series, Man and Woman, is one of his most widely published photographs. Typical of the series, this enigmatic print suggests the psychological tensions that are at the heart of male-female relationships.

  • Condition: Hosoe's iconic image Man and Woman #24, 1960; printed 1987 is in excellent condition. The print is rich and contrasty, with deep blacks and bright highlights.

    Under close examination in raking light, the print doesn't evidence any inconsistencies. Its wide margins are bright and clean, as well as the verso, with Hosoe's signature and negative date in pencil on recto, and his signature, title, negative and print dates, and additional notation in pencil on verso.
