Eileen Gray (1878-1976) & Jean Badovici (1893-1956)

E-1027 Maison en Bord de Mer.

Paris: Éditions Albert Morancé, 1929.
First edition, quarto; complete with 34 plates, including 4 pochoir in partial color; loose as issued in the original publisher's printed cardboard folder with cloth ties (inked presentation inscription to title, ghost of a paperclip to first folded text leaf; rare small fox marks and spots to plates; gentle toning and rubbing to cardboard); 10 5/8 x 9 in.

This offprint publication includes detailed plans and images of Eileen Gray's famous conceptual design house, E-1027. Widely considered a landmark of Modernist architecture, the house was designed by Gray with assistance from her mentor/romantic partner, Jean Badovici, the editor of L'Architecture Vivant. The house's name is a reference to their partnership, with the E standing for Eileen, 10 for the tenth letter in the alphabet, J for Jean, 2 for B in Badovici, and 7 for G in Gray. It was Gray's first major work and functioned perfectly to showcase her design philosophy and garner new clients. E-1027 remains an inspiration, exemplifying seamless integration of architecture and interior design.
