EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D. Two Typed Letters Signed, as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.

SIGNED "IKE" AND "D.E." EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D. Two Typed Letters Signed, as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. The first, "Ike," to Mary Naiden, after the heading "PERSONAL," expressing his discouragement at the "feud" among Republicans in Connecticut. The second, "D.E.," to [later National Security Advisor] Robert [C.] Cutler, thanking him for considering his offer and accepting his reasons for declining. Each 1 page, small 4to, personal stationery; horizontal folds. Gettysburg, 25 September 1963; "Supreme Headquarters," 7 June 1951

  • Notes: 25 September 1963: ". . . It is most discouraging to learn that there is still going a 'feud' in Connecticut; we certainly cannot diminish our strength by cannibalizing each other. . . . [T]here is little that I can do in other states; I can let some of the people know how important I feel it to be that we Republicans begin to act more like a closely-knit family than a bunch of wildcats in a cage. . . ."
