EL ANATSUI (1944 - )
Paper and Gold.

Color inkjet print with hand-cut edges, printed and hand-sculpted aluminum collage, and copper wire on wove paper, 2017. 508x495 mm; 20x19½ inches (sheet, irregular), full margins. One of four directors' proofs, aside from the edition of 30. Signed, dated, and numbered "D.P. 2/4" in pencil, verso. Published by Benefit Print Project, New York.

  • Notes: El Anatsui's use of bottle caps in his work perpetuates the artist's message that one could find art materials everywhere. He started to link the caps together with copper wire and found that together in multiple techniques, they created an eye-catching material that could drape like a textile.
