Pen and ink and wash and pencil on cream laid paper. 304x432 mm; 12x17 1/4 inches. The name Horne and date 1818 watermark.

Provenance: Unidentified collector (Lugt 3733, lower right recto); private collection, New York.

Montagny was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) and worked in Italy from 1804-1815. There is an album containing more than four hundred drawings and tracings by Montagny reproducing antiquities from collections in Rome and Naples now in the Getty Research Institute, Malibu.
