Margold was an interdisciplinary artist in the truest sense among the Weiner Werkstatte greats. Schooled as a woodworker in Bohemia and at the School of Applied Arts in Mainz, he went on to become a student of Josef Hoffmann at Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, later becoming Hoffmann's assistant and joining the Wiener Werkstatte. Though Margold's name and work have not resonated nearly as much as some of his peers, his textile, ceramic, jewelry and graphic designs all bear the powerful and attractive hallmarks of the best Werkstatte designs, many with a strong resemblance to the work of Hoffmann himself. He also did work with product packaging and interior design. In 1911, Margold left Vienna for the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. Although printed in Vienna, this poster advertises an exhibition in Prague of German artists. rare.
