  • Notes: lavishly produced and exceedingly scarce collection of baroque neo-latin poetry, mostly religious in content, composed for various notables or occasions by a Belgian Minim. Possibly distributed privately, the book is made up of pamphlets printed over nearly two decades preceded by a general title and leaf with dedication to Jesus; the composition of individual copies varies.
This copy contains the following parts, each with undated Charitopolis imprint except as noted: 1 Adventus charitatis; 2 Cithara charitatis; 3 Braxinium charitatis, Louvain: Petrus Zangrius, [1685?]; 4 Rubus charitatis, Brussels: Lambert Marchant, [1682?]; 5 Hierotheca charitatis [with Apologeticum charitatis, Litaniae martyrii, and Anchora sacra charitatis]; 6 Ver charitatis, Antwerp: H. I. Verdussen, 1693 (with Charitopolis imprint overslip); 7 Laurus charitatis [with Charitas Martiniana], Cologne, 1683 (with Charitopolis imprint overslip); 8 Praeludium charitatis [with Tessera charitatis]; 9 Orthia modulatio, Cologne, 1675; 10 Drama charitatis, 1692; 11 Jubilus charitatis; 12 Palmetum charitatis [with Isagoge charitatis]; 13 Echo charitatis, Cologne: Hermann Demen, [1691?].
Praz, page 496; Charles Ruelens, "François Désiré de Sevin," Bulletin de Bibliophile Belge, Volume 1, Series 2 (1854), pages 270-74. Praz cited the British Museum and Stirling-Maxwell copies and Ruelens noted 2 copies at the Royal Library in Brussels; OCLC records only the copies at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, the University of Glasgow (Stirling-Maxwell collection), and the Bavarian State Library (lost).
