ENDJA MOGOUL. 1927.

62 1/4x45 1/2 inches. H. Chachoin, Paris.
Condition B+: restored losses and restoration in right margins.
A graceful and elegant image of a dancer, this poster may be the only surviving legacy of this performer who has otherwise been completely lost to history. Although the name Endja Mogoul sounds more like it hails from the Steppes of Central Asia than from Spain ( most likely it was not her real name) she is pictured as a gypsy dancer performing flamenco. With castanets in her hand she is moving fluidly enough for her gown and headdress to flow with her motion. Don has cleverly emphasized her movement and the castanets by depicting her arms and legs in an entrancingly elongated fashion.
