(ENGLISH.) The Bible.
General title within woodcut historiated border; woodcut text illustrations and maps. Black letter. 3 parts in one volume. Folio, 348x235 mm, later sheep, worn, attractively rebacked in the 19th-century. London: Christopher Barker, 1578
-
Notes: "Geneva version. The first large folio edition... In this edition the Geneva and the Prayer Book [ i. e., Great Bible] versions of the Psalter appear side by side... The Prayer Book included in the preliminary matter exhibits many peculiarities; the word Minister is substituted throughout for Priest, and some of the Offices are omitted"--Herbert 154.
Margins trimmed affecting occasionally entering headlines and sidenotes, some minor stains, tears, and restoration on preliminaries, with a few leaves bound out of order, some marginal dampstaining at end of volume. The letterpress text within the general title border has been excised (leaving the imprint) and the missing area restored with blank paper, with "Breeches Bible" written in 19th-century hand. Lacks the leaf preceding the general title (Of the incomparable treasure of the holy Scriptures etc.), the New Testament title, and the last 10 leaves (tables, followed by A perfite Supputation).
