(ENGRAVED GEMS.) Marchant, Nathaniel; engraver. A Catalogue of One Hundred Impressions from Gems. Engraved frontispiece of Beauty's arm by Lavinia

(ENGRAVED GEMS.) Marchant, Nathaniel; engraver. A Catalogue of One Hundred Impressions from Gems. Engraved frontispiece of Beauty's arm by Lavinia Countess Spencer after Bartolozzi. [2], 36 pages. 4to, original marbled wrappers, spine defective; scattered minor foxing and dampstaining. London: J. Edwards, 1792

  • Notes: first edition. A catalogue of casts of intaglios belonging to Marchant, gem-engraver and medallist. He claimed to be the first Briton to examine gem collections in person and with a great amount of detail in order to engrave his own designs after them. One fault of his acute attention to detail was that his designs, often engraved under a large magnifying glass, are difficult to appreciate with the naked eye. DNB 14361; Sinkankas 4195.
